THE CHALLENGE

This leading telco was running a growing business off a legacy ERP that was never designed for analytics. Reporting was slow, required technical expertise, and sat entirely inside a system about to be replaced. As the client prepared for its move to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, the question wasn’t just how to migrate — it was how to preserve a decade of institutional knowledge and make it useful going forward.

THE OUTCOME

The customer now operates on a cloud-native data foundation built on SAP Business Data Cloud, unifying historical and current data into a single analytics environment. Finance, Controlling, and Supply Chain data are reconciled and ready for reporting via SAP Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud. This eliminates legacy complexity, ensures trusted insights, and enables AI-driven analytics and decision-making at scale.

what we did

Many modules. One unified data layer.

We migrated Financial Accounting, Controlling, and Materials Management data, Security – covering everything from general ledger balances to purchase orders to inventory movements – into a structured, analytics-ready environment in SAP Datasphere.

Financial Accounting

G/L balances, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and line-item history — all migrated with full period granularity and multi-currency support. The data that drives cash flow forecasting and Days Payable Outstanding analysis is now instantly accessible.

Supply Chain & Purchasing

The full purchase lifecycle — from requisition through to invoice — is captured in Datasphere. Vendor master data, purchase orders, inventory movements, and delivery performance history are centralized for cross-functional analysis.

Controlling & Margin Analysis

Cost centre and profit centre data allows the client to perform internal margin analysis that was difficult to run in ECC. Actuals vs. budget comparisons are now a query, not a project.

Always-Fresh Data

This isn’t a one-time snapshot. Delta queues keep Datasphere updated on a scheduled basis, so the data continues to reflect what’s happening in the business — not just what was true at go-live.

Enterprise-Grade Security

All data moves through an encrypted tunnel and is stored with AES-256 protection at rest. Access is governed by role-based controls that mirror the customer’s organizational structure.

S/4HANA Bridge

Master data mapping tables connect the client’s ECC history to the new S/4HANA structure. Pre- and post-migration data can be compared in the same view without breaking historical reports.

results

What our customer can do now that they couldn’t before.

The migration wasn’t just a technical lift. It changed what’s possible for the client’s finance and supply chain teams day to day.

01

Analytics without ERP risk

Heavy reporting queries no longer run against the live production system. Finance and supply chain teams get answers faster, and the ERP runs smoother.

02

Cross-functional insights in one place

Finance and Supply Chain data share a common layer for the first time. Combining inventory aging with vendor payment terms no longer requires a spreadsheet exercise.

03

Self-service reporting for business users

Nine analytics reports replace the legacy T-code equivalents. Teams can run GL balances, vendor lists, and purchase orders without needing technical support.

04

Audit-ready historical record

A decade of financial transactions is preserved in an encrypted, access-controlled environment - satisfying data retention requirements even as ECC is wound down.

The goal was never just moving data. It was building our client a platform where every transaction they’ve ever made becomes a foundation for smarter decisions — and where SAP’s most powerful AI capabilities can be turned on without starting from scratch.

what's next?

The data is ready. Now the AI can use it.

SAP’s AI capabilities – built around Joule, their enterprise AI assistant – have one fundamental requirement: clean, structured data in Datasphere. Our customer now has exactly that.

AVAILABLE NOW

Ask questions in plain English

Joule is now live inside Datasphere. Finance and procurement teams can ask questions about their data conversationally - no T-codes, no technical knowledge required.

AVAILABLE NOW

Predictive analytics on real data

SAP’s AI models can run predictive analysis on the client’s actual AR aging, spend, and inventory data — answering questions like “which customers are most likely to pay late next quarter?” with answers grounded in history.

AVAILABLE NOW

Autonomous finance agents

SAP’s Cash Management Agent can automate daily bank reconciliations. The Bid Analysis Agent can evaluate supplier quotes automatically. Both run on the FI and MM data the client just migrated.

NEXT STEP

Custom agents built for the client

With Joule Studio, Aevitas can build client-specific agents — for example, a vendor risk agent that combines 10 years of purchasing history with current delivery performance to flag at-risk suppliers before they become a problem.

NEXT STEP

Role-based AI for every team

SAP’s role-based AI assistants give each user — a finance controller, a procurement manager, a supply chain planner — a purpose-built interface that surfaces exactly the intelligence relevant to their job.

NEXT STEP

AI-powered financial close

As the client’s S/4HANA environment matures, AI agents can take over time-consuming close activities — automated reconciliations, anomaly detection, and cash positioning — reducing close cycles significantly.

the strategic advantage

SAP’s AI roadmap has a single prerequisite: clean, structured, historical data in Datasphere. Most companies spend 12–18 months building that foundation before AI becomes viable. Our customer has already done it. Every AI capability SAP ships — now and in the future — is available to them from day one.
